Dynamic League: Origins

The Day Everything Changed
On August 25th, 2008, our youngest son, David (then 2), was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes, an auto-immune disease that he'll have for the rest of his life unless a cure is found. Obviously this has changed my family's lifestyle considerably. It is bittersweet to have something like this happen to one so young especially since this will be a continuous battle. The good thing is that he will grow up with it and hopefully adapt better to its demands.

The Beginning
When we left the hospital, we realized we didn't have anything to alert medical professionals to our son's disease. My wife did some research and found someone who donated his time and talent to create 25 medical alert bracelets for $1 each. They were donated to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh to be given to families with children who were newly diagnosed with Type I diabetes.

The Dynamic League
Seeing how well the bracelets were received, I decided to help out by creating a group of superheroes called the "Dynamic League" who would help educate children and their families about Type 1 Diabetes. As we look to meet and talk with folks interested in learning more, we provide “Create-A-Hero” sheets for kids to draw their hero who could be added to the Dynamic League’s roster.

The Campaign
We’ve started the "Buck-A-Bracelet" campaign, where each initial dollar of a donation goes towards the creation of a child's own medical alert bracelet. Additional funds will be used to help further research by supporting the JDRF and other researchers. There is a lot to do, and children still need heroes. Will you be one today?
